Since the challenges we face in development are demanding, all too often, practitioners can entirely focus their work externally towards those challenges. However, this field of work (perhaps more than any other) also requires of us an ongoing personal process to inquire and reflect on what biases, cultural assumptions, and worldviews we carry. This focus on self-awareness, critical self-inquiry, shadow work, and even spiritual practice can become some of the most essential components of our work. In this discussion thread, we begin to unpack the reasons for this, to share some stories of the importance of self development in sustainable development, and to share some recommended practices.
